August 6th – 9th 2026 FOSSY was held in Vancouver, Canada this year on the University of British Columbia campus. This was my first conference as a KDE representative sitting at the KDE sponsors table. I don’t know if we were the biggest sponsor at FOSSY, but we certainly had the most people and tables in the sponsors area. We also had the most things to play with. A drawing tablet, a surface table with drawing pen, a steam deck, a rpi4 with small touchscreen, as well a various types of laptops. ...
Red Hat Summit 2026
May 11-14, 2026 Red Hat Summit was held in Atlanta Georgia, USA this year. I gave a presentation as well as worked at the CentOS booth. My presentation was very similary to what I gave at CentOS Connect earlier in the year, and that was nice. What I really liked was working at the CentOS booth and being able to talk to all the people about it. For the booth, I had CentOS Stream 10 running on my Steam Deck, playing Stardew Valley on the main monitor. Although it didn’t have much to do with anything it was a good converstation starter. ...
Linuxfest Northwest 2026
April 24 - 26, 2026 I always enjoy going to LinuxFest Northwest. It is in the same state that I live in, so it is drivable. Though this year the gas prices made that more expensive than I wanted. The past three years I’ve given a presentation about something about open source and fasion. It’s surprised me each year how many people show up. This year I gave a presentation about FreeSewing.eu. A place where you can generate and download custom fitted designs. The whole site and code is open source, and it has a wonderful community. I got to meet and talk with Joost, the founder of FreeSewing, when I was at FOSDOM this year. He was able to answer alot of my questions, and I hopefully was able to convey at least some of that to the people that attended my presentation. ...
Centos Connect 2026
January 29 – 30, 2026 CentOS Connect was held in Brussels again this year, right before FOSDOM. I gave two presentations and was on one panel. I also participated in a HyperScale / Alternative Images workshop that was not recorded. The presentation that got me the most positive response was also the one that I thought I had done the worst on CentOS Alt Image - Let’s Talk About it. I had a demo of installing our CentOS Stream 10 KDE image on a Steam Deck. Before I started, I had tested both my laptop and my Steam Deck on the projector and everything worked. But when it came to do my presentation, neither of them worked. On the You-Tube video, we cut out the first 18 minutes because it was just me trying to get the projector working. And yet people stayed. There was even a Register article written about it where I was directly quoted. In the end, I was able to do my demo, as well as announced that the AltImage and ISA SIG’s were going to jointly work on a CentOS Stream 10 RISC-V release. ...
